SpaceX Introduces Enhanced Starlink Satellite Internet Terminal

SpaceX has discreetly launched an updated version of its Standard Starlink terminal, featuring a streamlined design and simplified setup compared to its predecessor. The new terminal offers a 10% broader field of view and replaces the motorized setup with a convenient kickstand, allowing users to manually adjust its orientation. Initially, this upgraded terminal is exclusively available to a select group of early customers in the US through invitation only.

The new terminal boasts improved weather resistance, elevating its rating from IP54 to IP67. This upgrade ensures that the terminal is dust-proof and can be submerged in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes without incurring damage. SpaceX has also enhanced the terminal’s durability, allowing it to operate in winds exceeding 60MPH. Additionally, optional mounts are offered for users who prefer a more secured setup.

Accompanying the upgraded terminal is a redesigned Wi-Fi router that now rests on its long edge instead of standing upright. The router features two coverable Ethernet LAN ports and one Ethernet WAN port connecting to the terminal, a significant improvement over the previous model, which lacked any Ethernet ports. The router is now a tri-band Wi-Fi 6 device, surpassing the older dual-band Wi-Fi 5 model. This upgrade enables the router to cover an area of up to 3,200 square feet, a notable increase from the 2,000 square feet coverage provided by the previous router.

The introduction of the enhanced Standard Starlink terminal is part of SpaceX’s ongoing commitment to refining and improving its satellite internet service.
