Union Pacific Awards Over $5.2 Million to Nonprofit Organizations Across 23 States

Union Pacific Railroad has granted over $5.2 million to 487 nonprofit organizations through its Community Ties Giving Program. The funds, distributed across villages, towns, cities, and counties in 23 states where the railroad operates, will support projects that align with Union Pacific’s key priorities: safety, workforce development, community vitality, and environmental sustainability.

These grants, ranging from $5,000 to $30,000, will make a meaningful impact by creating safer neighborhoods, introducing students to career opportunities, revitalizing parks, and launching new environmental efforts. Millions of people are expected to benefit from these community-based projects.

Union Pacific President Beth Whited expressed pride in supporting local organizations. “Union Pacific believes in the power of local, grassroots organizations to create positive and meaningful change in communities. We are proud to support these nonprofits, which share our commitment to building safe and vibrant communities for today’s families and for the generations to come.”

Program Overview and Application Process

Union Pacific’s Community Ties Giving Program opens for applications each April. The process is competitive, allowing various nonprofits to apply for support. Eligible organizations have the chance to win grants to help them drive community improvements in areas such as public safety, job development, and environmental sustainability. More details about the program and application guidelines are available on the Union Pacific website at up.com/communityties.

Beyond just financial aid, Union Pacific’s investment in local nonprofits plays a crucial role in fostering long-term improvements in the areas they serve. For example, many of the grants are directed toward initiatives that enhance community safety, such as neighborhood watch programs or emergency preparedness training. Other grants help develop workforce programs aimed at introducing students to future career paths, particularly in underrepresented industries like transportation and technology.

In recent years, Union Pacific has increasingly focused on sustainability. A portion of the grant funding is dedicated to environmental projects, such as tree planting, water conservation, and clean energy initiatives. These efforts align with Union Pacific’s broader commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting environmental stewardship across its operations.

Union Pacific’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities where its employees live and work demonstrates its dedication to building a brighter, safer, and more sustainable future for all.
