Lush Cosmetics is scaling down its operations in Vancouver, resulting in staff layoffs and the closure of a B.C. woodshop, according to Amanda Caruso, a spokesperson for the U.K.-based brand. The manufacturing operations currently based in Vancouver will be relocated to Toronto as part of the company’s efforts to improve operational efficiency and ensure long-term success.
Caruso did not specify the number of employees affected, citing privacy concerns. However, she emphasized that the changes will not impact Lush’s retail shops, online store, or app services. Some employees will be relocated or transitioned to new roles, with the full transition expected to be completed by February 26, 2025.
Adrienne Wensel, an associate lawyer at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP, noted that several non-unionized Lush employees have sought legal advice regarding their termination packages. She highlighted that while companies can terminate employees without cause during restructurings, affected workers may be entitled to up to 24 months of severance pay, depending on factors like seniority and position.
The Workers United Canada Council, affiliated with the Global Lush Union, has been contacted for comment.
