Fremantle Lays Off Entire Staff at Euston Films and Undeniable Documentary Label

Fremantle has laid off all staff at its drama production house, Euston Films, and its recently launched documentary label, Undeniable. The decision comes as part of Fremantle’s strategic restructuring to streamline its operations.

A Fremantle representative explained that the changes are necessary to ensure the company’s growth and its ability to continue delivering world-class content. “As our industry evolves, we must do the same,” the spokesperson stated.

Euston Films, known for series such as Wreck and the upcoming Nightsleeper, has a long history, having originally launched in 1971 before being shuttered in 1994 and revived in 2014 under Fremantle’s ownership. Kate Harwood, managing director of Euston Films, along with her co-MD Noemi Spanos, are among those exiting the company.

Undeniable, led by Fremantle’s global head of documentaries, Mandy Chang, was launched last year to develop premium documentary projects. The label had already produced notable works, including Devo and Mrs. America. Both Chang and Harwood have expressed pride in their work and plan to pursue new projects independently.

It is still unclear what the future holds for Euston Films and Undeniable, as neither label has been officially shut down despite the layoffs.

What’s the plan ahead?

Fremantle has yet to provide concrete details on the future of Euston Films and Undeniable, but the company is expected to focus on restructuring its broader operations for greater efficiency. The recent layoffs are part of a larger strategy to adapt to the evolving media landscape, streamline production efforts, and prioritize growth in key areas.

While no official plans have been confirmed for the two labels, Fremantle appears to be evaluating its portfolio and resources to ensure it remains competitive in producing high-quality content. This may involve redistributing projects under other divisions within Fremantle, exploring new creative partnerships, or realigning resources to focus on profitable ventures. As of now, the future of Euston Films and Undeniable remains uncertain, but Fremantle has signaled its commitment to ongoing content creation and maintaining strong relationships with global partners.
