Capella Space Raises $15M U.S. Air Force Contract to Enhance SAR Technology

Capella Space Corp., an American space technology company specializing in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data and satellite solutions, has been awarded a $15 million contract by the U.S. Air Force through the AFWERX Ventures Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) program.

The funding is intended to accelerate the company’s innovation and strengthen U.S. Air Force capabilities.

The investment will support the development of Capella’s next-generation SAR sensor, which promises enhanced resolution, faster data delivery through improved downlink capabilities, and dual-polarization operation.

These advancements aim to boost SAR applications across various sectors, including defense, agriculture, disaster response, and more.

Capella Space, the first American commercial SAR provider, continues to deepen its relationships with government agencies such as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and NASA. CEO Frank Backes expressed excitement about further developing Capella’s leading technology for defense and commercial uses.
